Las Promotoras

Las Promotoras Against Sexual Assault is a part of the CA Creative Corps, which is generously supported by the California Arts Council and administered by Community Partners.

Juan Escobedo has been collaborating with Promotoras since 2005, initially focusing on HIV prevention. During the pandemic, he worked alongside the Promotoras to promote resources and prevention efforts. Over the years, Juan has built long-lasting relationships with Las Promotoras through his continued work and dedication. In 2020, he was invited to participate in a new group focusing on sexual assault and domestic violence. This led to a one year grant to develop and documentary on Las Promotoras focusing on HIV prevention, mental health, racism, Covid-19, sexual assault and domestic violence. The documentary is to be release at the end of 2024.

Las Promotoras has over 26 active members and meet biweekly. They are now part of TELASOFA, a nonprofit funded by Juan Escobedo in 2015.
